YouTube
In partnership with Atlas Obscura, I designed and developed a microsite experience for YouTube that celebrated Earth Day by showcasing rare and fascinating ecological excursions from around the world. The goal was to inspire exploration and highlight environmental awareness through an immersive, interactive format.
The centerpiece of the project was a custom-designed interactive globe that users could spin, zoom, and navigate to discover curated ecological destinations. Each location was thoughtfully designed with a dedicated content module that opened up when selected, offering rich imagery, storytelling, and educational insights about the site’s unique ecological significance.
To build anticipation leading up to Earth Day, the microsite also featured a countdown experience, giving visitors a sense of momentum and urgency. The design system emphasized a balance between YouTube’s clean, digital-first aesthetic and Atlas Obscura’s signature sense of discovery and wonder, resulting in a site that was both modern and adventurous.
From interaction design to visual storytelling, the microsite incorporated subtle animations, smooth transitions, and an intuitive user experience that invited people to engage deeply with the content. The project not only positioned YouTube as a champion of ecological awareness but also created a digital experience that encouraged users to look beyond the screen and reconnect with the natural world.
